Michael Weddell is a 26 year old racing driver from Edinburgh, Scotland. Like many racing drivers, Michael started out in karts and has worked his way up to cars. He currently competes in the Scottish MINI Cooper Cup, which meets at Knockhill Racing Circuit, Fife.

Karting Years

Michael started karting in 2007 at Raceland, Gladsmuir, near Edinburgh.

His karting achievements include:

  • 3rd place in the British Rental Kart Championship (multi-round) in 2012
  • 3rd place and fastest lap in class in the British 24 hour at Teesside in 2013
  • 2nd place finish in class in the British 24 hour at Teesside in 2014
  • 3 appearances at the Calspeed Karting Championship from 2013 to 2015

Scottish MINI Cooper Cup Scholarship Drive 2017

Michael's skills landed him a scholarship with AP Autocentre and Minimax Motorsport to drive in the 2017 Celtic Speed MINI Cooper Cup. During his maiden season, he collected:

  • 6 newcomer wins
  • 1 race win
  • 1 second place
  • 3 third places
  • 7th in the championship

He clinched his first pole position at Rockingham and his first race win at Knockhill.

Michael finished 7th overall in the championship.

Following the 2017 season, Michael was selected for a special prize organised by Allan McNish to take part in a test day in Germany in an Audi TT Cup Car. He was selected by the SMRC Committee for showing great performance and potential during the season.

Scottish MINI Cooper Cup 2018 Season

Michael returned to the Celtic Speed MINI Cooper Cup for the 2018 season and collected the following accolades:

  • 2018 newcomer champion
  • 16 newcomer wins
  • 2 second places
  • 1 third place
  • 4th in the championship

Scottish MINI Cooper Cup 2019 Season

Michael returned to the Celtic Speed MINI Cooper Cup for the 2019 season and collected the following accolades:
  • Awarded ‘Rising Star’ Status from Scottish Motor Racing Club
  • 3 race wins
  • 7 second places
  • 3 third places
  • 2nd in the championship

2021 Season

In 2021, Michael will again compete in the SMRC Scottish MINI Cooper Cup for his fourth season in the series. See the Facebook page for the most up to date news!
