CSMCC Round 6 Race Report
The penultimate round of the 2018 season and with the weather not looking great the racing was set to be action-packed.
Qualifying
P3! Happy with that considering I had never driven the reverse circuit in wet conditions before, so it was great to be at the sharp end of the field.
Race 1
The track was still mostly wet but at least it wasn’t raining as badly as earlier! so it was key to get a good start! From my standard’s it wasn’t too bad! I held my position just before the safety car was called out before the end of the first lap. With the race restarting, I found myself in a decent position with a gap to P4 behind me and right on the boot lid of the two leaders. I decided to not get involved in the battle for first and sit tight and see if any opportunity would arise itself, on the last lap this plan worked as second place ran wide and gifted me the position. P2 and top newcomers! 🥈🥇
Race 2
The track was starting to dry out so with another decent start, I held onto second place. Again, the top 3 made a break from the rest of the pack. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the pace to challenge for the lead as we were struggling on exit speed as we went over the top Duffus. I dropped down to third but again, stuck with the leaders hoping the same outcome as race 1 would happen but unfortunately, I’m not that lucky! P3 and top newcomers again! 🥉🥇
Race 3
Starting P5 due to the reverse grid draw, I knew that I had to finish inside the points to secure the Newcomers cup with a round to spare, the track was now bone dry! Made another decent start and on the second lap made a move around the outside of the hairpin to move up to P4 and began to hunt down the top 3. As the laps ticked down I got myself on the boot-lid of my teammate John Duncan Racing and we worked together to try and leap ahead of those in front, but we ran out of laps, in the end, P4 and top newcomers! 🥇
There we have it, a great weekend that allowed us to secure the newcomer’s championship with a round to go! It’s great to secure the championship that Minimax Motorsport has been missing from there collection of trophies. 🏆
I know I repeat myself a lot but without the support from T. B. Mackay Energy Services, Summer Isle View and Dec-o-Rate! then I defiantly would not be able to race and it was great to bring home a championship. Thank you for believing in me!
So with the final round just around the corner, We still sit in 4th place in the overall championship and it’s still all to play for a top 3 finish!
Roll on October!
