CSMCC Round 3 Race Report

I was really looking forward to the away round, we had decent pace at the last away round when we went down south so we where hoping to replicate it at Anglesey Circuit / Trac Môn

After the long journey down on Thursday with the Minimax Motorsport crew after what seemed to take days we where all setup and ready for testing on the Friday.

Testing

Friday, the weather was perfect and I was really looking forward to getting out and learning a new circuit. We had 6 20-minute sessions, after the first session times where looking good so we were feeling pretty optimistic with the rest of the day! This was until the engine let go during the first few laps of the second session. A new engine was needed so the guys at Minimax Motorsport got to work and we thought we would make it out for the last two sessions… until the gearbox no longer wanted to play either. Disaster! Unfortunately, I wouldn’t make it out for remaining sessions but thankfully the guys at Anglesey Circuit / Trac Môn let me out for a lap to make sure everything was running how it should be.

Qualifying

Saturday, Qualifying. I really didn’t know what to expect with the limited running we had on the Friday but my teammate John and I had a plan for Qualifying and it seemed to work! Myself in P3 and John Duncan Racing in P1. What a feeling after Friday!

Race 1

Saturday, Race 1. Now we know we had the pace it was time to get some decent points. I made a poor start and dropped a few places down to 5th until an early safety car which took some time until the restart which left us with a 4 lap dash to the end. I fought my way back up 4th and began chasing down the leading pack. In the process I set the new lap record and by the time flag dropped, I was on the gearbox of the car in 3rd! A newcomer win with the lap record! Result!

Race 2

Sunday, it’s time for Race 2… and it was wet! Starting 5th I made the call on the tyres which I soon found out to be the wrong one. Struggling for grip throughout the race I had quite the lonely race in my own wee pocket with a few seconds gap to those in front and behind and brought it home in 6th.

Overall, a really good weekend. Loved the atmosphere and how the weekend went after the nightmare which was Friday. I can’t thank Scott Mckenzie, Michael Naylor, Mikey Falconer and Victor Covey at Minimax for their extreme efforts on Friday to get me out. They where at the car non-stop to get it working, I’m glad I could repay them with a newcomer win and by taking the lap record home with us!

We now lead the newcomer championship and finally made up some ground in the overall championship so who knows what can happen, it’s not even half way yet!

Well done again to John and Dominic Wheatley Racing on getting a win and the main man #Kamikaze Craig Blake Racing on getting a well deserved podium in the second race!

Now the long break until the next round in July!

Thanks again to my sponsors without them I couldn’t race:
